This week, YAPS organised a Motivational Workshop facilitated by the lovely Teresa. The workshop got such positive feedback from everybody – after only a one-off ninety minute session, it’s already been requested that it be held more frequently!
We started the session by each of us writing positive things about each other on a piece of paper placed on our backs – the comments I received from the others surprised me so much (in a good way!), and I thought it was a beautiful way to break the ice and get a positive vibe going in the room. I've already stuck my piece of paper on the mirror to read every morning! :)
We then considered how success means different things to different people (my definition of ‘success’ has certainly changed drastically within the last 2 years!), and why the majority of people never achieve their goals. We also learned about ‘limiting beliefs’ and how to recognise them.
We looked at different aspects of our lives – everything from our lifestyle, finances, family, relationships, spirituality etc – and thought of what we would like to achieve in each of those areas. It was great to have time and space to think about the future in a positive way! We then picked one achievement from our list and wrote down how we would reach that goal using smaller, more manageable targets.
I found the whole experience to be very helpful and uplifting. We wrote a pledge to ourselves to promise we would take one step towards achieving our goals within the next week or so and that we would reward ourselves for it. For me, this means working on a budget for myself over the weekend, and celebrating with sorbet! :)
The biggest thing I took from this workshop was that we are all in control of our own goals and our own dreams, nobody else! This doesn’t mean we can’t ask for help and support – it just means that we can’t let other people tell us what we can and can’t do, and we can't let other people make us feel bad about our goals in life!
Hope you all have a positive and motivational weekend! :)
